Acapulco is one of Mexico’s oldest coastal tourist destinations, reaching prominence in the 1950s. Dubbed the “Pearl of the Pacific” in its heyday, it was the place where Hollywood stars vacationed. And was made famous by movies such as Elvis’ Fun in Acapulco. Today, Acapulco still attracts many tourists, although most are now from Mexico itself. But don’t be so quick to dismiss this beach town. Read along to find out why:
Warm days and nights are the perfect setting for a beach getaway. The climate doesn’t vary much in Acapulco throughout the year. So anytime you visit you’re almost guaranteed ideal sunbathing weather. And if you are keen to dipping your toes in the water, the ocean temperature is normally warm and perfect for a swim! Best of all, there are many beaches to choose from!
La Capilla de la Paz is located in Las Brisas neighborhood and this is the best spot to see the Bay of Acapulco in its entire splendor as well as the Isla de la Roqueta. In fact, Roqueta Island is perfect for a day trip. And the real wonder is the impressive views that you can enjoy from the top of the island after a fun, challenging hike.
One of the spectacles of this city are the beautiful sunsets each evening. You can catch the sunset just about anywhere but for a great setting visit Sinfonia del Mar, or Symphony of the Sea. It is located near the Quebrada where crowds gather each day to experience an epic sunset of wonders.
An enigmatic attraction is the cliff divers at La Quebrada. The tradition started in the 1930s when locals competed against each other. And today the divers are professionals diving from heights of 130 feet. The Clavadistas dive daily and the last show at night features the divers jumping with flaming torches.
