Lisbon is a city that should be seen from all angles but it’s hard to deny that the skyline boasts some of the most astonishing views of hilly streets. Lisbon is built on seven hills and because of its topography, you have many lookout points to choose from that offer magnificent views over the city. Not only are the 360 degree views of the Lisbon absolutely worth the 8 euros to get in, the castle itself is worth wandering through. Sitting on a hilltop, the Moorish castle overlooks the city of Lisbon as well as the Tagus River. Come early to avoid the lines.
Located in the neighborhood of Santa Catarina, this lookout point is the perfect spot to join locals and tourists alike. Come during sunset to grab a drink and relax while listening to the soundtrack of street musicians. The view is stunning and features the Tagus River, the bridge and the rooftops. There is a small garden, but the terrace is the real attraction, where you’ll see a huge statue of Adamastor, the mythical figure created by famous poet Luís de Camões.
Since this miradour faces the east, it is ideal for coming early. Not only will you skip the crowds but you’ll enjoy a beautiful sunrise. The balcony boasts truly spectacular views of the river and Alfama, the city’s oldest neighborhood, . Soft-toned buildings, the Decorative Arts Museum and a view of São Vicente de Fora Church make this an ideal spot for photographers.
Probably the most romantic of all the lookout points! The landscaped terrace combined with the fountain and historical busts make the perfect setting for an amorous stroll.
Inaugurated in 1901, this elevator connects the lower streets of the Baixa with the higher Largo do Carmo. Since its construction, the lift has become a tourist attraction for Lisbon as it is the only remaining vertical lift. At the top of the lift is a viewing platform which provides wonderful panoramic views over the historic center of Lisbon.
Situated on a hillside of the Graça neighborhood, this is the highest point in the city. This miradouro is next door to another fantastic viewpoint, the Miradouro da Graça, and is often overlooked and therefore pretty quiet!

Situated on the hill of Santo André, with views that can reach old neighborhoods like Mouraria, Alfama, Downtown and the Castle. Although everyone calls it Miradouro da Graça, its official name is Miradouro Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, named after a famous poet who spent many of her days admiring Lisbon from this spot.
Just a few steps from Miradouro das Portas do Sol, you will find Miradouro de Santa Luzia. On the east wall of the Santa Luzia church, which faces the terrace, you will see blue azulejo panels. Admire the views of Lisbon from under the pergola covered in Bougainvillea.
Lisbon’s central park sits atop one of the city’s many hills and offers views of Lisbon – from downtown all the way to the river. The park is 64 acres and is located to the north of the Avenida da Liberdade and the Marquess of Pombal Square in the centre of the city.
