Ensenada, Baja California is an important commercial, fishing and tourist port. For us Sandiegans, it’s a quick 2-hour drive down. This and Valle de Guadalupe are two of our favorite spots for a day trip. So many fun things to do, delicious food and the beauty of Mexico and its people! Read along for the best ways to spend a day in Ensenada, BC.
There’s good food, there’s delicious food and then there’s La Guerrerense. Truly the best ceviche you ever treat your taste buds to, this stand serves up the freshest seafood fished daily from the Pacific Ocean. Family owned and operated since the 60’s, there’s more than a dozen types of ceviche and home-made salsas to choose from. Show up early, they serve until they run out. Side note: La Guerrerense will be a part of Anthony Bourdain’s NYC street food market!

This cute little coffee shop serves up great sips for a morning or afternoon pick-me-up. Every coffee they feature is from Mexico and is prepared to perfection!

Walking through the streets of Ensenada is half the fun. We love walking down Avenida Lopez Mateos which is full of neat shops. El Malecon (the boardwalk) is decorated with food and souvenir vendors as you stroll next to the bay. You’ll also find plenty of bars to quench your thirst!
This famous blowhole is quite a spectacle. The second largest natural marine geyser (the largest is in Hawaii), it can shoot water in the air well over 60 feet. The phenomenon is a result of extreme air and water pressure caused by ocean waves being forced into a semi submerged sea cave. The quick walk from the car is full of vendors. You’ll find anything from hand crafts, churros and Pina Coladas!
For the adventurous types, Las Cañadas offers zip lines, hanging bridges, horseback riding and more! There’s even a water park for the kiddos!
About 20 minutes away from Ensenada is the wine region that is giving Napa Valley a run for its money. This is probably our favorite destination for a day trip. Check out my post on the best wineries and eateries!
